Obstacles to a Friendly Divorce Settlement
August 20, 2009
One Party Wants a Divorce and the Other Party Doesn’t - When the announcement is made the party who did not know about the divorce is often very traumatized.
The Parties Make Decisions Differently - Even outside of the divorce arena you can see how people make decisions differently. Some people like to think about it, research it, and then after considerable consideration will finally make a decision.
Using The Same Old Communication Skills - Before we can get our partner to agree on an early out of court friendly divorce we must change our communication pattern to an entirely new way of communicating.
We Don’t Understand the Part that Feelings Play - If we can calm bad feelings, often we can settle the divorce. This may require us to allow our spouse to talk about their feelings, or yell about their feelings, without us over reacting.
